Blog Post #5

 A) What have you learned about the process of conducting a sound research study in class? Conducting research is a very intricate thing to do. For research topics that do not get much attention, it is hard to get anything started. I found research that related to my topic, but it did not directly help. Most of the inferences I had to draw from this type of research were indirect-- it took a lot of work to compile. Research needs to be sound in the sense of covering most avenues of reasonable doubt. Also, I learned that what one presents in their research should not allow for deductions that prove to be more than what it is. In other words, research should pertain and acknowledge limitations that are not always apparent to the audience.   B) What have these processes taught you about your future roles as a technical and professional communicator? Understanding the role of being a technical communicator is an essential and healthy part of learning communication skills. I d...

Blog Post 4 Plan for Revisions

My research proposal has so far concentrated on the idea of defining terminology through the use of hyperlinks. I want to understand the average user's comprehension of the Washington County Bookings website and if hyperlinks would help overall comprehension. I plan to ensure that there is a clear and concise question I include in my research proposal that will ask this. This will make it easier for the reader to understand specifically what I am seeking to gauge. I am also considering using a more generic approach for my research proposal. I want to keep my audience wondering about most of the adjacent issues that surround this research question.

Blog Post #3 RESEARCH GAP

In the world of PTW, we understand that technical communication on any medium must be effective and understandable for the reader. The missing research that I have noticed is whether legal jargon can really be understood by users of certain websites. The websites that I am specifically talking about are those websites that are ran or funded by any local or federal government. Legal terminology use can be an indirect way of excluding groups of people who are not familiar with the field, as as a PTW, we must cater to their lack thereof. More research needs to be done in the above mentioned websites and we must further investigate whether the average user of said websites understand the terminology. The solution of this problem should be addressed with the use of hyperlinks that define terminology for the average user.

Blog Post #1 on topic interests

For my research proposal, I want to do something that is both meaningful and holds value to disenfranchised/ underrepresented groups. Personally, I think that research should be conducted for the means of helping society progress. Furthermore, those who do not have means of understanding anything research/educated related and its benefit for being conducted should be given an opportunity to be identified as a subject in a UX research experiment. My idea for research will follow a Postmodern goal and give attention to underrepresented users of computer softwares and or anything related to technical communication i.e. grafts and statistical analysis. Another idea I have thought about is to include research of how technical communication could be misrepresented. For this research, I would like to focus on ethical issues that certain users could face. For now, these are my ideas and I have yet to decide on an actual research proposal.
