 A) What have you learned about the process of conducting a sound research study in class?

Conducting research is a very intricate thing to do. For research topics that do not get much attention, it is hard to get anything started. I found research that related to my topic, but it did not directly help. Most of the inferences I had to draw from this type of research were indirect-- it took a lot of work to compile. Research needs to be sound in the sense of covering most avenues of reasonable doubt. Also, I learned that what one presents in their research should not allow for deductions that prove to be more than what it is. In other words, research should pertain and acknowledge limitations that are not always apparent to the audience.

B) What have these processes taught you about your future roles as a technical and professional communicator?

Understanding the role of being a technical communicator is an essential and healthy part of learning communication skills. I do not have any ambition of being a technical communicator, but the skills that I will acquire from learning the skills would help me greatly. Being a technical communication student has also helped me understand that the devil are in the details. Being accurate is crucial to this type of field.
